BODY-SAFETY DISCUSSION GROUP

(Prerequisite: Parenting Safe Children)

The 3-hour Body-Safety Discussion Group is for individuals who attended the Parenting Safe Children Workshop and who want additional practice and support putting their prevention skills to work. In a small group (15 people, maximum), you will have the chance to explore specific situations and practice appropriate responses. Parents typically bring questions and scenarios related to boundaries, privacy, children’s sexual development, and caregiver screening:

  • “When should our kids stop bathing together?”
  • “I didn’t know what to say when my son asked me, ‘Mommy, where’s your penis?’”
  • “My 9-year-old daughter had a girl friend over and I found them cuddling naked? Is this okay for her age?”
  • “My mother-in-law insists on the grandchildren giving her a kiss, but my son doesn’t want to? I’ve tried to get her on my prevention team, but it’s not working.”
  • “Is it okay for my four year old to run around naked when we have guests over?”
  • “I just can’t bring myself to screen my child’s swim coach. Can I practice here?”

The Body-Safety Discussion Group is not a therapy group, and you can choose whatever level of participation is comfortable to you. No one will be required to role-play or speak in front of the group. This is a safe and educational place to learn more about keeping children safe!
