80-95% of sex offenders are known to the child (Colorado Bureau of Investigation, 2003).
96% of child sexual assaults are perpetrated by males (U.S. Dept. of Justice 2000).
2-4% of reported child sexual offenses are committed by females (U.S. Department of Justice, 1997).
The average pedophile abuses approximately 250 children (United Youth Security, 1999).
There is one sex offender per square mile in the U.S. (Department of Justice, 1999).
Adolescents represent up to 40% of offenders (Saunders et al., 1999).
The average age that an adolescent offends is 14 (Pithers & Carey, 1998 and Cavanaugh-Johnson, 1988).
